Daniel Hartwig says officers responding to a report of a disturbance around 5:40 p.m. Saturday at the West Oakland station found a man police identified as Michael Joseph Gibson, who appeared to be intoxicated, challenging others to fight and yelling racial slurs. Hartwig says when an officer tried to take the 37-year-old Gibson into custody, a window on the train shattered, injuring both the suspect and the officer. Hartwig says the officer suffered several lacerations and a concussion.
