Wis. School Fines Students $100 For Being Tardy

MARSHFIELD, Wis. (CBS) ― Being late at a high school in Wisconsin comes with a hefty fine.

Officials at Marshfield High School say last year, they had 1, 300 unexcused tardiness to class and almost a thousand unexcused tardiness to homeroom.

Principal Gordon Sisson says lateness disrupts the entire classroom.

According to the new policy, students have five minutes to get to class.
Sisson says they get two warnings for unexcused tardiness. The third time, they get a citation for being truant, which could cost more than 100 hundred dollars.

Some parents agreed with the new plan, hoping to end the problem.

Sisson says they have already seen an improvement; the halls have been empty, so students are getting where they're supposed to be.
