Man Arrested After Craigslist Ad For Sex, Murder

Seattle Police Say Man Sought Sex Partner To Also Kill

SEATTLE (CBS) ― A man in Seattle, Washington, was arrested Wednesday and charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the second degree, according to CBS affiliate KIRO-TV in Seattle.

Shawn Tyler Skelton, 24, was busted after allegedly posting an ad on popular Web site Craigslist. Prosecutors say Skelton tried to find a willing murder victim online -- and when that didn't work, he agreed to kill an unwitting victim instead.

Court papers say his ad on Craigslist said he was interested in meeting a woman who wanted to be killed during sex.

The ad that led to Skelton's arrest appeared in the "casual encounters" section of the Craigslist personals under the heading, "A strange desire ... " "I have a very strange thing that I want to do," the Seattle Times reports the ad read. It concluded with, "Serious iquiries [sic] only please."

Craigslist passed along the ad to the authorities. Police used an undercover agent to make contact with Skelton.

"Our detectives had approximately 30 e-mail conversations with this person," said Mark Jamieson of the Seattle police department.

Court papers reveal that the undercover agent told Skelton he wanted someoen murdered and wanted to know if Skelton would be willing to do it. Skelton reportedly said he'd prefer a willing victim, but would murder someone else if he got paid for it. The amount Skelton allegedly agreed to was $2,000.

Police arrested him when he showed up at a motel in South Seattle on Monday, carrying a knife, a length of heavy chain and two long shoelaces.

It was not immediately known if Skelton had obtained an attorney. He was being held on $1 million bail.
