SJ Woman Hacks Into Computer & Ups Husband's Pay

SAN JOSE (BCN) ― The U.S. Department of Justice announced this week that a San Jose woman has been indicted on one count of fraud for allegedly tampering with a protected computer to increase her husband's pay.

Samantha Leatiota, a payroll services firm employee, allegedly obtained and used the user names and passwords of employees of Green Waste Recovery, a San Jose waste and recycle services company, in order to tamper with its payroll, according to U.S. Attorney Joseph Russoniello.

Leatiota's husband, a Green Waste Recovery employee, was reportedly overpaid as a result of her actions, Russoniello said.

The maximum penalty for possessing stolen trade secrets is five years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
