Internet technology specialists from Silicon Valley continued Wednesday trying to un-do the damage done by a San Francisco city employee who is alleged to have tampered with the city's new computer network.
Terry Childs, described as a disgruntled city employee, remained jailed after being accused of hacking with the system to give himself exclusive access.
The IT experts have made some progress in gaining access, but have not unlocked Childs' code, according to Mayor Gavin Newsom. But the system continues to operate, Newsom added.
If the system can not be unlocked, it will be shut down and replaced, said Newsom. The process could take six to eight weeks.
Childs, meanwhile, was being held in lieu of $5 million bail. He was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on four felony charges.
