Fmr. Viking Running Back Arrested For Alleged DUI
SACRAMENTO (AP) ―
Troubled former NFL running back Onterrio Smith has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Sacramento police say Smith was booked into jail on a DUI count and a traffic warrant after his arrest Friday. Bail was set at $3,746.
The 27-year-old Sacramento native is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
Smith's once-promising football career was cut short after a string of drug infractions.
He was suspended for one year for violating the league's drug policy, which prompted the Minnesota Vikings to release him after two seasons.
Smith was denied reinstatement to the league in 2006 for failing to comply with mandated drug counseling.
Later that year, the Winnipeg Bluebombers of the Canadian Football League also cut him.
