The Oakland Athletics purchased the contract of catcher Eric Munson from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday and transferred pitcher Dallas Braden to the 60-day disabled list, all but ending his 2009 season.
Munson played parts of seven seasons in the majors for Detroit, Tampa Bay and Houston, but hasn't been on a big-league roster since end of 2007. Munson spent an injury-filled 2008 with Milwaukee's Triple-A affiliate in Nashville. Munson hit .265 with 13 home runs and 68 RBIs this season for Sacramento.
Braden hasn't pitched since July 31 because of an infection and, later, nerve damage in his left foot. Braden, who would be eligible to come off of the DL for the final days of the season, went 8-9 this season with a 3.89 earned run average.
