Barry Bonds Last Home-Run Ball Up For Auction

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― The last home-run ball hit by king slugger Barry Bonds went up for online auction today, with a sale approaching $1 million anticipated, according to SportsCards Plus Auctions.

The last home-run ball of Bonds' San Francisco Giants career was retrieved by James Sutton, 24, in a three-man scuffle at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado on Sept. 5, 2007. Sutton kept the ball in a safety deposit box, wondering if it was Bonds' last home run, according to the auction company. On March 13, Sutton hired SportsCards Plus Auctions to sell the ball.

"Owning this ball seems like a fairy tale," said Sutton in a statement. "This ball means a lot to my family, especially in aiding the costs of my father's battle with cancer."

This isn't the first Bonds ball the company has encountered. It sold ball No. 755 for $186,750 and ball No. 756 for $752,467 in 2007.

"This ball represents one of the most hallowed records in all of sports," president of the auction company David Kohler said in a statement.

The auction is scheduled to come to a close on April 12 and is available for bidding at http://www.sportscardsplus.com.
