Santa Clara Residents Voice 49er Stadium Concerns
SANTA CLARA (CBS 5 / KCBS) ―
Will there be too much noise? Where will all the fans park? Will traffic choke the neighborhood on game days? These and many other questions were voiced by Santa Clara residents at two public meetings Tuesday exploring the impact of a proposed 49ers football stadium.
"When Great America had their fireworks years back, we were literally prisoners in our houses out there," said Edward Sazarsky, who has lived near the site of the stadium on Great America Parkway near Tasman for 41 years. He told CBS he fears things will not be too different at football games and concerts.
City officials solicited public input to include in an Environmental Impact Report on the 68,500-seat stadium the team hopes to open by 2012 on part of the parking lot used by Great America. The city hopes the concerns of residents and the Ohio company that owns Great America can be addressed before a final construction plan is approved.
