  CBS 5 WINS 9 APTRA AWARDS
For Immediate Release June 30, 2009

San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose-- CBS 5 (KPIX-TV) Eyewitness News won 9 Associated Press Television-Radio Association (APTRA) awards (http://www.aptra.org)  in this year's APTRA competition for California, Nevada, Hawaii, Arizona, New Mexico, Washington, and Idaho. The awards were presented on June 27, 2009 at The Globe Theater, Universal Studios Hollywood.  The winners include:

Hall of Fame inductees for Lifetime Achievement – Don Sharp and (former KPIXer Dave McElhatton was also recognized)

Chris Harris Reporter of the Year: CBS 5 Political Editor Hank Plante

 

Stan Chambers Award for Extraordinary Achievement – Wendy Tokuda, "Students Rising Above" (Javier Valencia formerly of KRON was also recognized for his contributions to SRA)

 

Best Sports Segment: Dennis O'Donnell, Anthony Catchatoorian

 

Best Serious Feature: "The Quiet Room," Anna Werner, Abigail Sterling, Gerard Watson, Greg Marasso.

 

Best use of a News Website, CBS5.com, Jim Parker, Carlos Castaneda, Bill Disbrow, Tim Fang, Brittney Gilbert, Janice Mabry, Suzzanah Luhn.

 

Best Web Breaking News Coverage: "Gay Marriage," CBS5.com Staff

 

Best Webcast: "Election Night Webcast," Mariel Myers, Jim Parker

 

Best Blog/Serious:  cbs5.com "Eye On Blogs," Brittney Gilbert, Jim Parker
