Sonoma, Marin Voters To Decide On Train Tax

SONOMA COUNTY (CBS 5) ― Voters in Sonoma and Marin counties will vote on a train tax in November.

The "Press Democrat" reports that officials in both counties voted Wednesday to place a sales tax initiative tied to a Sonoma-Marin railroad link on the ballot.

It calls for a quarter-cent sales tax for a commuter line from Cloverdale to Larkspur.

Marin County Supervisor Charles McGlashan, chairman of Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit, said every year the line is put off, it becomes more expensive to build, estimating an extra $40 million for every year it is delayed.
