Prop. 8 Opponents Open Headquarters in SF

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / KCBS) ― Hundreds of people jammed into the new "No on Prop. 8" headquarters in San Francisco Saturday, hoping to defeat the proposition that would eliminate the right of same sex couples to marry.

"If we succeed, we will not only change history in California, we will change the tone and tenor of this debate, not only across America, but the rest of the world," said San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.

And from the East Bay, Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums joined his counterpart.

"We are who we are, and this country's got to get over it. People who chose to marry whom they chose are here. It's our right, and that is something that we will never retreat from," said Dellums to a cheering crowd.

ThoseĀ supporting Proposition 8 paint a different picture, saying it's not an attack on gay couples, and does not take away from the rights that same-sex couples already have under California's domestic partner law.
