High Speed Rail Plans Met By Peninsula Opposition

A rendition of the planned California High-Speed Rail.
California's high-speed rail plan is raising objections among some in the San Francisco Bay area who say the line could take out trees, homes and businesses and split their communities.
Residents in Palo Alto and other peninsula cities that the line is expected to run through on its way to San Francisco are suggesting tunneling or ending the line further south in San Jose. Still other residents say the line should be rerouted and taken off the peninsula all together.
The cities of Atherton, Menlo Park and Palo Alto have sued the rail line's board, calling for a more northerly route that could leave the peninsula untouched.
High-speed rail planners say they've held dozens of community meetings and will continue to reach out to peninsula residents to hear their concerns.
