Reform Would End Health Care Tax On Gay Couples

Every year, millions of gay and lesbian couples pay an extra tax on health care that straight couples do not. But there is a little-known part of the health care bill making its way through Congress that would end this practice.
Lesbian and gay couples fought for years to get domestic partners' health insurance from their employers. And now 49 percent of the Fortune 500 companies do provide it. But the federal government considers that health care as income, and taxes it. Under the health care bill just passed by the House, and on its way to the Senate, LGBT couples would not be taxed on their health care premiums, just as straight couples are not.
