Bay Area 'Green Collar' Jobs Attract Attention
OAKLAND (CBS 5) ―
Voters are going to hear more about the environment this campaign season. A Bay Area program that promotes "Green Collar" jobs is attracting the attention of the presidential candidates.
"Green Collar" jobs are essentially blue collar work in an environmentally-friendly business. The Oakland Green Job Corps is putting young people to work by installing solar panels and insulating home. The program was praised by some of the Democratic presidential candidates in Monday night's debate.
Young people in Richmond have a program of their own called "Solar Richmond" and are also learning valuable skills by installing solar panels.
