Vets Group Protests 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' In DC

WASHINGTON (CBS 5) ―

A group of military veterans gathered near the U.S. Capitol on Friday to protest the Pentagon's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy on gays.

The group placed 12,000 American flags on the Capitol Mall, each one representing a service member who has been discharged from the military because of their sexual orientation.

On Friday, 28 high-ranking military leaders who are now retired signed a letter urging the government to eliminate the policy.

"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1993.
