Sen. Dianne Feinstein said the presidential inauguration ceremony will blend the swearing-in of Barack Obama as the nation's first black president with the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth.
The California senator chairs the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
Speaking to reporters in San Francisco, Feinstein said Wednesday that the ceremony's theme will be "A New Birth of Freedom," one of the best-known phrases of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.
Feinsteni said it's "especially fitting to celebrate the words of Lincoln as we prepare to inaugurate the first African-American president of the United States."
She said more than 250,000 are expected to attend the Jan. 20 ceremony at the National Mall in Washington.
