Nearly half of California's U.S. House members voted against the $700 billion bailout package (29 in favor, 24 opposed), contributing to its stunning defeat.
Also surprising, 15 California Democrats defied the wishes of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco.
