Rep. McNerney Raises Money Fast In Vulnerable Seat
WASHINGTON (AP) ―
First-term Democratic Congressman Jerry McNerney is raising money fast as he faces what could be California's most competitive House race in November.
McNerney raised $246,000 during the final three months of 2007. That's according to federal campaign finance reports released Thursday. His likely Republican opponent, former GOP Assemblyman Dean Andal, raised $143,000.
The two are facing off in the Republican-leaning 11th Congressional District that straddles the Central Valley and eastern San Francisco Bay area. McNerney won the seat in an upset in 2006 over a powerful Republican committee chairman, Richard Pombo.
McNerney ended the year with nearly $925,000 cash on-hand while Andal had $471,000.
