Canine Therapy Helps Peninsula Vets With PTSD

MENLO PARK (CBS 5) ― A growing number of military veterans are struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. Now a pilot program at the VA Hospital in Menlo Park offers up a new prescription, man's best friend.

In a program called "Paws for Purple Hearts," nine veterans with PTSD are training three dogs to become service companions for disabled veterans. The dog training helps these veterans to establish a bond and come out of their shells.
