Calls for a change in the top management at the San Francisco Zoo continued to grow Monday in the wake of the Christmas Day tiger attack that killed a young San Jose man and injured two others.
Dr. Elliot Katz, President and Founder of In Defense of Animals based in San Rafael, said Zoo Director Manual Mollinedo should be fired for a number of tragic events at the zoo including the kidnapping of a koala, the molestation of sheep and the deaths of several elephants.
"He's responsible for the deaths of three of those elephants, and now I hold him responsible for the death of not only the young man, but also the tiger," said Katz.
Deniz Bolbol of Redwood City, a member of the group, Citizens for Cruelty Free Entertainment, wants wholesale changes at the zoo.
"The management there is completely flawed. It's broken," Bolbol said.
The zoo plans to reopen Thursday, but the big cat exhibits are closed indefinitely.
