Schwarzenegger Names Nanny To Guide Dog Board

SACRAMENTO (AP) ― Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has appointed his children's nanny to a board that oversees the guide dog industry.

Lindsay Schnaidt, 32, will be a part-time state regulator on the Board of Guide Dogs for the Blind. She will be paid $100 each time the board meets, usually about eight times a year.

Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear said Schnaidt, a former teacher, expressed an interest in serving California. She has worked for the family for seven years.

"The governor always wants to give people an opportunity to serve," he said Thursday.

Schnaidt fills a seat on the board that is required to go to a representative of the public rather than someone with a background in the guide dog industry, McLear said.

The guide dog board regulates schools and individuals that train and supply guide dogs in California. It is among the boards Schwarzenegger had proposed eliminating as a way to control government spending.
