Merced County Toddler Killed In Pit Bull Attack
MERCED (CBS 5 / AP) ―
A 17-month old Merced County boy has died after being mauled by a pit bull.
Merced County authorities are describing a gruesome scene after the dog attacked the little boy around 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Deputy Tom MacKenzie said deputies responding to a 911 hang-up from a home in Delhi found blood on the doorsteps.
A few miles away, another deputy pulled over the driver of a car who was driving erratically.
It turns out the woman behind the wheel was the same person who called 911.
MacKenzie says she was trying to drive the child to a hospital. She told deputies that she was baby-sitting the toddler when the dog attacked.
The boy died shortly after being airlifted to a hospital.
The names of the child and the baby sitter were not released, but MacKenzie says they were not related.
