VALLEJO (CBS 5) ―
Cats and dogs don't normally have anything in common. But their owners are dealing with the rising cost of pet food.
Bay Area Animal shelters, such as the Benicia-Vallejo Humane Society, are facing challenges on two fronts. The shelter has seen a 10 percent increase in surrendered animals from last year. They say a lot of that increase has to do with the price of pet food, which is up 10 percent.
Pet food manufacturer Natura said the cost of rice has gone up 15 percent, and eggs up 48 percent.
