Mountain Lion Warning Issued For Peninsula

WOODSIDE (CBS 5 / BCN) ― San Mateo County officials are warning residents to beware of mountain lions, especially in the rural areas.

Monday evening, a hiker in the Windy Hill Open Preserve spotted a baby mountain lion and its mother. The bigger of the cats started to follow the woman and eventually lost interest.

In the past week, two mountain lion sightings have been reported near Woodside.

Animal experts said it's not unusual to see the wildcats around this time, which is the season for mountain lions to roam.

They advise folks that encounter such animals not to run, but to make themselves appear bigger and louder and then call 9-1-1.
