L.A. Neighborhood Searched For Mountain Lion

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― A report of a mountain lion sighting in a Los Angeles neighborhood triggered a lengthy search Friday, but authorities were unable to find the animal.

Eagle Rock, a hilly neighborhood in the northeast area of the city, was searched for about four hours by police and state Department of Fish and Game staff, said DFG spokesman Steve Martarano.

The sighting report indicated the cougar was about the size of a large dog and was perched in a tree.

Searchers had planned to tranquilize and remove the animal if it was found, since it had done no harm, said Martarano.
