The famous beavers of Martinez have inspired a musical event that'll be held in their honor. It's called the Worth a Dam Beaver Festival 2008.
Even though they've been subjected to news cameras, shutter bugs and tourists over the past few years, the beavers who built their dam in a flood control channel in downtown Martinez, appear unaffected.
"We have the two parents, we have two yearlings from last year's litter, who should be dispersing in about a year, and we have the four brand new babies," said Linda Meza, with the beaver care taking association "Worth a Dam".
"The festival will feature a man who was filmed at the very beginning of this hoopla, he'll be singing a song called, 'Don't Kill Our Beavers,' and we'll have a bluegrass band," said Meza.
There was initially controversy when the City of Martinez wanted to knock down the dam so that it wouldn't hinder flood control.
The free event will be held on Saturday at Alhambra Avenue and Marina Vista near where the beavers do their evening feeding.
