An ailing beaver rescued Thursday from Alhambra Creek in Martinez died overnight at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum in Walnut Creek.
The animal appeared disoriented when a bystander jumped in the creek to rescue him.
The beaver and -- a few others in his brood -- showed up about a year ago and built a pretty impressive dam across a creek in downtown Martinez.
City officials considered having the beavers destroyed over concerns that their dam could cause a repeat of winter floods. They elected to work around the beavers to appease local animal lovers.
