Two female relatives of a 9-month-old boy who was attacked and seriously injured by the family's dog on May 27 were to be arraigned Monday on felony charges of child endangerment and failing to protect the public from a vicious animal.
Annette Hodgson, the boy's 37-year-old aunt and baby sitter, and Samantha Alaniz, the boy's 22-year-old sister, were arrested on Friday and were scheduled to appear in Alameda County Superior Court at 2 p.m. Monday.
The baby boy was attacked by Tyson, Alaniz's 3-year-old boxer, at about 2:45 p.m. on May 27 at the family's home in the 3600 block of Monmouth Place. The boy was badly mauled and remains hospitalized, according to Fremont police spokesman Detective Bill Veteran.
Tyson was euthanized on Friday.
On May 11, Tyson was quarantined after injuring an adult in the same home.
Fremont police said family members admitted they downplayed the May 11 incident so that the dog would be released.
The arraignment for Hodgson and Alaniz will be in Department 604 at the Fremont Hall of Justice at 39439 Paseo Padre Parkway in Fremont.
