Cleanup Of Lost Fishing Gear Near Monterey

MONTEREY (CBS 5) ― Hundreds of pounds of commercial fishing gear are lost off the Monterey coast each year, killing wildlife. But a new underwater program using a robotic vehicle plans to change that.

The Phantom ROV took its maiden voyage last month, to retrieve lost fishing gear in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Officials say the main fear is "ghost fishing," nets and fishing lines continuing to trap and kill marine life for years.
