Workers are finishing up an overhaul of the big cat exhibit at San Francisco Zoo following a fatal Christmas Day attack by an escaped tiger.
The renovations include raised walls, new glass barriers and electrified wires to keep the animals from trying to escape.
The zoo's big cats have been kept indoors away from public view since a Siberian tiger killed a San Jose teenager and mauled his two friends.
Officials say the major work on the outdoor grotto would likely finish up Thursday. But the exhibit will remain closed indefinitely to the public while the big cats acclimate to their new surroundings.
Before the improvements, the exhibit's walls were about 4 feet lower than national guidelines suggested. Officials say the renovations raise the walls to the recommended height of 16.4 feet.
