Report: Russia Won't Cooperate On Missile Defense

CBS News Interactive: Inside The U.S. Arsenal

 CBS News Interactive: About Russia
MOSCOW (AP) ― Russian news agencies say the Kremlin is rejecting U.S. proposals for missile defense cooperation, calling them inadequate.

ITAR-Tass and Interfax cite an unidentified Kremlin official as saying that Russia is prepared to work with Washington on European security questions.

But the official accuses the current U.S. administration of giving the incoming team of President-elect Barack Obama no choice other than to accept the missile program.

The Kremlin refused to comment on the report Wednesday.

Russia has reacted angrily to U.S. plans to base elements of the defense system in Eastern Europe.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev last week warned that Russia would put short-range Iskander missiles near Poland if the U.S. continued with the plans.
