Bay Area Faithful Travel East For Pope's Visit
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / KCBS) ―
During his first visit to the U.S. as pope, Benedict will meet with Catholic educators from around the country, including the superintendent for the San Francisco Archdiocese.
"We'll have an opportunity to hear from him firsthand what his vision is for Catholic schools in the United States," said superintendent Maureen Huntington.
Benedict's visit comes at a time when fewer Americans educated in Catholic schools as children attend mass regularly and dioceses in some of America's largest cities are eliminating parishes because of low attendance.
Pope Benedict's visit to New York and Washington D.C. this week are not his first trip to the United States. As Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the pope came to California in 1997.
