Hurricane Norbert Strengthens Off Mexico's Coast
MEXICO CITY (AP) ―
The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Norbert has strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane off Mexico's Pacific coast and could threaten land.
Forecasters say the storm is moving west-northwest at 10 mph (17 kph) and is expected to continue on that path through Wednesday and then turn toward Baja California on Thursday.
The center said Norbert was centered 500 miles (805 kilometers) south of Baja California's tip late Tuesday. It had sustained winds of near 105 mph (165 kph) and was expected to strengthen.
Norbert, the seventh hurricane of the east Pacific, was expected to become a major hurricane on Wednesday.
