Israeli PM Olmert Faces Police Questioning

JERUSALEM (AP) ― Police say investigators will question Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Friday morning, a move certain to further tarnish Israel's already unpopular leader.

Police are not saying which of several cases involving the prime minister will be covered in the session. Olmert is a suspect in several corruption affairs involving real estate deals and questionable political appointments. He has never been charged.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says Olmert will undergo questioning at his official Jerusalem residence.

In a statement, Olmert's office says he has "made time in his busy schedule" for one hour of interrogation and intends to "cooperate fully."

Olmert "is convinced that with the discovery of the truth in the police investigation, the suspicions against him will dissipate," the statement says.
