An 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck a California town Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake struck at 3:40 p.m. It had a depth of 5.2 miles and was centered 7 miles east southeast of the town of Alum Rock, near San Jose.
