Georgian Official Says Russian Pullout Incomplete

TBILISI, Georgia (AP) ― A Georgian Interior Ministry spokesman says Russian forces have pulled out from all but one disputed area outside the breakaway province of South Ossetia.

Shota Utiashvili says the Russian troops remained in the Georgian town of Akhalgori.

He said Wednesday that the Russian pullout was a step in the right direction but that Georgia wouldn't consider the withdrawal completed until Russian troops leave Akhalgori and the Kodori Gorge in another breakaway province, Abkhazia.

Moscow must withdraw its troops from buffer zones surrounding the two regions by Friday under cease-fire agreements signed in the wake of the August war.
