A 59-year-old Windsor man fatally shot himself outside the Windsor Police Department on Sunday, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

The body of Franklin Lunn was discovered at about 10 p.m. A handgun was found near his body, Sgt. Steve Gossett said.

Sheriff's officials said the victim had no known contact with law enforcement and that it is not clear why he went to the police station.

The Sonoma County coroner's office is investigating the death. The sheriff's office provides police services for Windsor.
