Wind Creates Dangerous Situations In Bay Area
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / KCBS / BCN) ―
Wind gusts of up to 50 mph were reported Saturday at San Francisco International Airport and at Pillar Point in San Mateo County, acording to the National Weather Service which had issued a high wind advisory for the entire Bay Area.
The entire region Saturday experienced winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts of up to 50 mph, the weather service said.
A small craft advisory was also in effect for the San Francisco Bay, where a 12-year old boy had to be rescued by his father on Saturday after high winds capsized a number of sporting vessels.
The boy's rowboat had swept hundreds of yards off Strawberry Point in Richardson Bay, which is an arm of San Francisco Bay.
U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Lauren Kolumbic said there was another dramatic rescue near Candlestick Park.
The Coast Guard and an Alameda County marine unit made several other rescues in various parts of the Bay.
Authorities recommended that all water sportsmen and women assess the wind, their equipment, and their abilities before shoving off from shore.
