Peninsula Psychologist Gets New Lawyer For Retrial
REDWOOD CITY (CBS 5 / AP) ―
The start date of a second trial for a Northern California child psychologist accused of molesting some of his patients appears to be in doubt after a change of attorneys.
William Ayres is due to stand trial again after a mistrial was declared in July when jurors could not reach verdicts on nine counts of lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor under the age of 14.
Attorney Jonathan McDougall appeared before a judge Friday and said as Ayres' new lawyer, he needed more time to prepare for the trial.
McDougall requested that the proceedings be pushed back until April.
The judge set another hearing for Oct. 9 to choose a start date for the new proceedings.
The 77-year-old Ayres is free on bail while waiting for the second trial.
