Monterey County Wildfire Burns 12,000 Acres

FORT HUNTER LIGGETT (CBS 5 / AP) ― Rain and humidity were slowing a wildfire Sunday that had grown to more than 12,000 acres in the Los Padres National Forest along California's central coast.

More than 1,300 firefighters were trying to contain the blaze burning about 20 miles south of King City in Monterey County.

Fire officials said the 19-square-mile blaze burning was 37 percent contained Sunday. Full containment was not expected until mid-October.

The wildfire that started Sept. 27 threatened 19 homes and 30 other buildings. So far, no structures were damaged but eleven firefighters had been injured.

One firefighter suffered a broken nose while battling the blaze. Ten other firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
