The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office has identified a suspect in last month's attack on a young woman who was jogging on a path outside Watsonville.
Mauricio Lopez, 25, is wanted on a $250,000 arrest warrant and charges of attempted rape, kidnapping, robbery and battery with serious bodily injury, according to the sheriff's office.
An anonymous tip helped identify Lopez as the man who attacked a 19-year-old woman on Oct. 21 while she was on a run in the levee area near Lakeview Road just outside Watsonville, according to the sheriff's office.
Investigators said he pulled the woman off the path, but she fought him off and managed to flee, suffering multiple injuries to her face.
Lopez is known to frequent the Watsonville, Santa Cruz and Monterey County areas, according to the sheriff's office. He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and 170 pounds. Lopez has brown hair, black eyes and tattoos on his neck and forearms.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office at (831) 471-1121.
