Pacific Gas and Electric Co. crews have repaired a gas main that was ruptured earlier Tuesday morning in Walnut Creek and the area has been reopened, PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said.
Shortly before 8:20 a.m., a construction crew broke a 2-inch natural gas main near the intersection of Las Juntas Way and Oak Road, Sarkissian said.
Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said the break prompted the evacuation of a nearby school, some office buildings and a condominium complex.
A day care center was also evacuated, Sarkissian said.
The line was repaired and the area was declared safe at 10:30
a.m., Lee said.
No injuries or explosions were reported in connection with the break.
