Actress Helped Spark Vietnamese Business Trend

(CBS 5) Vietnamese-Americans now make up about 80 percent of manicurists in California. The trend came about after a Hollywood actress from an Alfred Hitchcock movie offered Vietnamese women help.

After the Fall of Saigon in 1975, Tippi Herden helped women at a refugee camp near Sacramento, touched by their plight. Herden noticed they were good with their hands and good businesswomen. She brought her manicurist to teach them and a business trend was born.
