Vallejo Holds Meetings On School Closures
VALLEJO (CBS 5 / BCN) ―
Two community forums are scheduled this week at Hogan High School to discuss school closures in Vallejo.
The forum Tuesday evening will focus on the closure of elementary schools. The 6 p.m. forum Thursday will focus on closures of middle and high schools.
The Vallejo City Unified School District expects hundreds of parents, teachers and students to attend the two forums and protest the closures.
A "Save Our School" rally happened Tuesday morning at the Cave Elementary School and one is scheduled Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Hogan High School, district spokesman Jason Hodge said.
The district has lost 4,000 students in nine years and must close three or four schools to save $1.5 million, Hodge said.
Among the schools that could be closed are Hogan High School; Springstowne Middle School, which also would be sold; Vallejo Middle School; Cave Elementary School; Loma Vista Elementary School and Widenmann Elementary School.
The Vallejo Adult School could also be relocated, Hodge said.
Hogan High School is located at 850 Rosewood Ave., Vallejo.
