Arrest In Vallejo Rape Of Mentally Ill Woman
VALLEJO (BCN) ―
Vallejo police said Friday an Oroville man has been arrested for allegedly raping a mentally ill Butte County woman he transported to St. Helena Hospital in June.
Sgt. Kevin Bartlett said Ronald Phillips, 32, is suspected of raping the 22-year-old woman in a Vallejo motel around June 6.
Phillips was driving the woman from the Feather River Hospital in Butte County where she was to have been placed on a 72-hour hold for evaluation, Bartlett said.
There was no bed space at the hospital so Phillips transported the woman to St. Helena Hospital for observation and treatment, Bartlett said. Phillips checked into a Vallejo hotel where the rape took place, Bartlett said.
Phillips was booked after his arrest at his Oroville home into the Butte County jail. He was questioned by Vallejo police there and allegedly confessed to sexually assaulting the woman, Bartlett said.
Phillips was then booked into the Solano County jail for rape of a person incapable of giving consent because of a mental disorder, lewd and lascivious acts on a dependant adult by a caretaker and rape with a foreign object.
Police did not disclose the transport company Phillips worked for but Solano County Superior Court records show records from Merit Medi-Trans of Chico have been placed in the court file for the rape case.
A motion will be heard Monday morning in Solano County Superior Court in Vallejo to continue Phillips' preliminary hearing that is scheduled for Tuesday.
