Man Shot Dead In Vallejo Attempted Robbery

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

VALLEJO (CBS 5 / BCN) ― Vallejo police said a 19-year old man was sitting in a car with a teenage girl drinking milkshakes when he was fatally shot during an attempted robbery early Wednesday morning.

Lt. Abel Tenorio said one of the three suspects took the girl out of the car and threw her to the ground before the shots were fired. The girl was not injured.

The shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. in front of a home in the 900 block of Cherry Street in south Vallejo, police said. The victim, Ivan Orozco, of Vallejo, was shot multiple times in the torso.

A preliminary investigation indicates Orozco was the victim of an attempted robbery, according to police. Witnesses reported seeing three men wearing hoodies running from the area after the shooting.

Orozco has had no prior contacts with police, Tenorio said. The shooting marks the city's ninth homicide this year and does not appear to be gang-related, Tenorio said.

Anyone with information regarding the homicide is asked to contact Vallejo police Detectives Wentz or Cosgrove at (800) 488-9383.
