USF Holds Off Dominican University 92-66
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / AP) ―
Kwame Vaughn scored a career-high 24 points and San Francisco recovered from a slow start to beat Division II Dominican, Calif., 92-66 Monday night.
Dior Lowhorn added 22 points and six rebounds for the Dons (2-0). Moustapha Diarra, a junior-college transfer who missed the Dons' first game while serving an NCAA suspension for playing over the summer on a European team with professional teammates, debuted with 14 points and a team-high seven boards.
Freshman Austin Bryan scored a game-high 33 points for Dominican (0-1) in his first college game.
The Penguins used their opportunistic defense and motion offense to build a 15-3 lead in the opening five minutes.
USF reasserted control by forcing the ball inside to Lowhorn, the West Coast Conference's leading scorer last season, and Diarra.
