SF's 311 Program Now Available On Twitter
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―
San Francisco residents can now access the city's 311 city services call center via Twitter, the mayor's office announced Tuesday.
Instead of phone calls, users of the social networking site can now "tweet" short message alerts or questions to the center about a range of issues, from street cleaning and potholes to graffiti removal and garbage cleanup.
Mayor Gavin Newsom, who has established a wide following with his own Twitter account, said the idea evolved from a conversation he had with Twitter founder Biz Stone and CEO Evan Williams after Newsom received a message from a resident about a pothole that needed filling.
"I'm very excited that San Francisco is the first major city to roll out an application of this magnitude on Twitter," Newsom said.
"We are changing the way cities connect with their government," he said.
