A father and son were killed and a second son was fighting for his life Monday after a mid-afternoon shooting Sunday in San Francisco's Excelsior district, police said.
The shooting took place just after 3 p.m. at Maynard and Congdon streets, according to police. The three victims were found shot inside their car, which had rolled backward and hit another parked car.
Authorities had not yet released the names of the victims.
According to SFPD Sgt. Wilfred Williams, the shooting took place after an "altercation" in the intersection. Williams declined to call the shooting road rage, and would not elaborate.
The father and one son were pronounced dead at the scene, while the second son was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remained Monday, Williams said.
Police believe the victims were driving southbound on Congdon Street when shots were fired from another vehicle driving northbound in the area of Maynard Street. The suspect vehicle drove off northbound on Congdon Street and no arrests had yet been made.
According to Williams, up to three men, described as having close-cropped hair, were believed to be in the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was described as a newer-model bluish-gray or greenish-gray Chrysler 300M with tinted windows and chrome rims.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked by investigators to call the San Francisco Police Department's homicide detail at (415) 553-1145 or the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.
A total of 51 homicides have been reported by the San Francisco
Police Department so far this year. In 2007, the department reported 98
homicides.
